Artist Statement
Every moment in time is taken for granted in daily life, until it is captured through photos, sketches or paintings. Displaying emotion and feeling in that single moment brings the audience closer and reminding them of their own experience. By having personal inspiration, I can portray feelings and emotion easier within each piece that I create. In each creation, the subject is in finer detail – almost tangible. The creations are realistic with a touch of imagination, giving the feel of the person within the work or the person that the viewer has become looking upon the scene. The dream-like, surrealistic works, a combination of realism with a trace of fabrication on the scene for example, a boy punching a heavy bag but shattering on impact.
The moments aren’t selected out of thin air but chosen based on the memory that I envision with it, the presence of those that I care for. For instance, I participated within ballet recitals and had portrayed the feeling of being up on stage as no one around me with clouds overlapping the curtains. Everything within the image is as realistic as can be with the curtains as an exception. So far, the creations are concerning experiences that have been a part of my life affecting it for the better. Once the subject is chosen, the composition is altered to allow the eye to keep circling around the piece. The color and lighting are the last part, depicting the connection between everything within the frame. Each color is throughout the piece, brought together through complimentary colors and secondary colors to change the hue and tone of the colors or inverted when black and white art pieces are depicted.
